Understanding Active Taxpayer List

The Active Taxpayers List (ATL) in Pakistan is a public record of individuals and businesses that have fulfilled their tax obligations by filing their income tax returns. Inclusion in the ATL confers various benefits, while exclusion can result in higher taxes, making it a key indicator of a taxpayer’s standing within the Pakistani tax system. Currently taxpayers in Pakistan are categorized into four categories regarding their status, which are listed below;

  1. No Record Found:These are those taxpayers who are not registered with FBR and don’t have NTN (National Tax Number). They’re treated as inactive taxpayers.
  2. Active:ÂActive taxpayers file their tax returns regularly before last date.
  3. In-active:ÂThose taxpayers, who are registered with FBR, but not filing their tax returns on time. However, you can file your tax returns after due date and pay ATL surchargeto become active filer.
  4. Active (Late Filer):ÂThose taxpayers who file their tax-returns after due date are considered as active but late filers. Late filers are taxed double advance tax on property than active filers, rest taxes are same for both.

Last date of filing tax returns in Pakistan is September 30 (unless extended), for Individuals and AOPs while December 31, for companies. Last date to file previous tax returns of 2023-24 was extended upto October 31, 2024.

In conclusion, it’s important to regularly check your Active Taxpayer Status in Pakistan to ensure that you’re complying with tax laws and regulations. Follow the above-mentioned methods to verify your status and stay updated.
